The service

Photo analysis. How it works.

Antique appraisal by photo: know what you have, whether it is authentic, and what it is worth.

The process

Three steps. Seconds of work.

Identify an antique from a photo and the real question behind every upload becomes clear: is this piece authentic, what period is it from, and what should you do with it (sell, keep, or insure). AntiqBot answers exactly that. No appointment needed, no transport to an appraiser, no waiting for a slot in a calendar. Upload a photo and receive a detailed analysis within 1-2 minutes, based on more than 30 years of hands-on antique dealing expertise. The system weighs style, material, production technique, period, and geographic origin, the same factors an experienced antique dealer would assess, now automated and available 24/7. Behind the scenes, more than 20 specialised modules each draw on years of knowledge of a specific category. Uploading a photo takes literally 10 seconds, the answer follows within 1-2 minutes. No subscription, no obligations.

Better photos

How to get the best analysis.

When you value an antique by photo, the result is only as good as the image. AntiqBot's algorithms read colour accuracy, texture, shadow, proportion, and detail sharpness, the same visual signals an expert antique dealer would examine. A poorly lit or blurry photograph drastically limits what the system can see and leads to a less accurate result. Follow these practical guidelines for the best possible outcome. They are the same principles professional dealers and auction houses apply before physically examining and valuing a piece. Invest a few minutes in good photography, because the difference between a vague and an accurate analysis can be significant for the final valuation.

Daylight (not flash)
Photograph in indirect natural daylight, near a window or outdoors in shade. Camera flash creates harsh shadows and erases fine details like craquelure in glaze, patina on metal, or wear patterns. These details are crucial for accurate dating and identification.
Multiple angles & perspectives
Top, bottom, front, back, and sides. For single large objects: all four sides. For decorative items also detail photos of interiors or working mechanisms. The more perspectives you show, the more visual context the system has for accurate analysis and period placement.
Base marks & signatures (macro)
This is often the key to everything. A clear close-up of base marks, maker signatures, factory markings, or hallmarks can mean the difference between "unknown" and a precisely dated piece. Use your phone's macro mode or a magnifying glass photo. Shoot this separately if you are in poor lighting.
Neutral background
White or light grey paper or fabric as a base. This helps AntiqBot perform accurate colour analysis. Avoid busy patterns, competing colours, or reflections that distract from the object or fool colour sensors.
Sharp focus & macro mode
Blurry photographs drastically limit analysis. For signatures, marks, and refinement details: use macro mode. Modern phones have excellent macro capabilities, so use them for detail shots of wear, stamps, and fine work.
Condition & damage (full context)
Show damage, repairs, chips, cracks, rust spots, and restoration work. This is not negative, it forms an essential part of valuation. A pristine piece and the same piece with visible repair or replacement of parts can differ by a factor of 2 to 5 in market price. Honest documentation of condition is crucial for accurate assessment.
